What is the Almare Chinese Reader?

Almare Chinese Reader is an offline Chinese-English camera dictionary for travelers and language learners.

Have you ever tried to look up a Chinese word in a dictionary? It's quite difficult even if you know how. Almare Chinese Reader recognizes Chinese characters from an image and translates them for you.

Application uses optical character recognition (OCR) to recognize Chinese characters from a live camera feed or a still photo. Point the camera to the Chinese text and adjust the recognition window to a line of Chinese text. You can pause the camera to view the characters or capture the image to study the text.

No internet connection required!

You can also browse the dictionary using Pinyin romanization or search English words from translations.

Application uses CC-CEDICT open source dictionary.

Where can I get it from?

Almare Chinese Reader is currently available for Windows Phone. Chinese Reader for Android will be published soon.

Almare Chinese Reader for Windows Phone version 1.1. You can buy the application from the Windows Marketplace or download a free trial. In the trial you can browse the dictionary and test the character recognition ability. Getting translations for automatically recognized characters requires purchase of the full version.

Almare Chinese Reader for Android version 1.0 was released 18.7.2012. You can buy the application from Google Play. In the first version you can recognize and translate Chinese characters and words from live camera. The still image functionality will be available soon.
